Early-onset of puberty in children or teenagers is known as precocious puberty. It begins at the age of eight for girls and nine for boys. Puberty is linked to fast physical changes and the release of sex hormones, estrogen in girls and testosterone in boys. Girls and boys have different symptoms. Breast augmentation and the onset of menstruation are common side effects for females. Enlargement of the testicles and penis, as well as facial hair and a deepening of the voice, occur in boys. Growth of pubic hair and underarm hair, acne, and quick growth in terms of height are all common changes and development in both girls and boys.
Precocious puberty is caused by a variety of factors. Early puberty can be caused by a tumor or injury that causes the production of sex hormones, or sex hormones can be released in the body in response to brain signals. Central Precocious Puberty and Peripheral Precocious Puberty are the two types of precocious puberty.
At Bliss IVF, our doctors do a physical examination, inquire about family medical history, and perform a blood test to determine hormonal levels in order to provide suitable medication. Additional tests, like an MRI or a thyroid test, may be performed to determine the cause and initiate treatment.
